Why do I need student accident insurance for my child?
Financial protection and peace of mind.
Who is eligible?
Any person who is over 6 months of age, who resides in Canada, is enrolled with and in regular attendance on a full time basis (minimum of 3 concurrent courses) with a Canadian kindergarten, elementary or secondary school, college or university, or any licensed or registered daycare, playschool or preschool and who has not taken or made arrangements to take full time permanent employment. Students enrolled in home schooling programmes are eligible as long as their curriculum is approved by the Provincial Ministry of Education.
How can I apply?
For ease of application, you can apply online. You can also download an application and mail the application with payment or you can fax the application to us, using your credit card as payment, or you may contact us by telephone at 1-800-463-5437.
Will this insurance provide benefits for my child when they are on school field trips, summer holidays or participating in recreational activities?
Yes, all plans available on the web are 24 hours per day, every day, during the full policy term.
Will this insurance provide benefits for my child while out of the province?
All plans provide accident coverage outside the insured’s province or territory of residence for trips up to 30 days in duration. The Super Plan Plus upgrades this coverage to $100,000 and includes coverage for sickness.
Are University/College students eligible for this insurance?
Yes, there is a University/College plan available.
Are University/College students eligible for the additional total permanent disability and additional accidental death upgrade benefits?
Yes, they are eligible for the upgrade to the University/College plan.
Can my child who is attending University/College be enrolled on the same application as my other children?
University/College students can be included on the same form, under the specified plan, but cannot be included as part of the family plan.
How long has your company been providing this type of insurance?
Reliable Life Insurance Company has been providing Student Accident Insurance for almost 40 years.
If I have a group plan through my employer, what is the benefit of purchasing this insurance?
Some plans may not provide for all expenses incurred. Student Accident Insurance will help to fill in the gaps.
Is the premium a monthly or annual rate?
All premiums are one-time annual rates.
When will this insurance take effect?
Insurance is effective on the later of: the date the application is received by Reliable Life Insurance Company or the date the premium funds are received by Reliable Life Insurance Company.
Will I receive a policy or confirmation of insurance?
When applying on-line you have the option to print a confirmation at the end of the transaction. When applying by mail or fax you may request a receipt or use your cancelled cheque as proof of payment.
My child is attending a private school, can he/she be insured through this plan?
Yes, as long as the student is enrolled with and in regular attendance on a full time basis (minimum of 3 concurrent courses).
One of my children is with the Catholic board and the other child is with the Public board. Can I insure them both on the same form?
Yes, only one application is needed.
My children are home schooled. Are they eligible for this insurance?
Students enrolled in home schooling programmes, are eligible, as long as their curriculum is approved by the Provincial Ministry of Education.
What is the difference between the plan types?
Plan 1, Plan 2, Plan 3, Super Plan and the Super Plan Plus include all the benefits that are described in the Student Accident Insurance Policy. All plans provide the same benefits with different benefit levels. In addition the Super Plan Plus provides Student Travel Protection.
What is the optional benefit?
The optional add-on benefit offers an additional total permanent disability benefit of $100,000 and an additional accidental death benefit of $5,000 to any plan that is chosen.
Is there an age limit for the insurance?
There is no age limit as long as the applicant meets the eligibility requirements.
Will I receive a copy of my policy?
For your convenience, the policy is available online at any time.
When will my policy terminate?
For all plans effective after August 1, 2007 the policy will terminate the earliest of:
a) at 11:59pm cathon September 30, 2008 or
b) the date the insured student ceases to be a student as defined in the policy.
The school is requesting proof of insurance. Can you provide me with confirmation?
You can use your confirmation sent to you by email if you’ve applied online. If you have applied by mail or fax you may request a receipt or use your cancelled cheque as proof of payment.
Is it possible to change my plan?
Yes, if necessary please contact our client service department at 1-800-463-5437.
We are moving. Will my child still be insured?
Yes as long as the child continues to reside in Canada and remains a full time attending student. However, it is important you contact us with the new address.
